The tale goes that a Sufi pilgrim named Baba Budan smuggled seven green beans out of Mocha, strapped to his chest, and planted them in the hills of Chikmagalur. Every cup of South Indian coffee since descends from that quiet act of devotion.
Kaapi Mahal is our small, imagined house for that inheritance. We buy from growers who still shade their coffee beneath silver oak, who still dry it in the courtyard sun, who still know that kaapi is not a drink so much as a way of saying sit down, you are home.
“Athithi devo bhava” — the guest is god. Serve him coffee.
